Description
The Role
As a Crisis Support Worker, you will provide end‑to‑end support for women and children accessing our Domestic & Family Violence Crisis Accommodation program. This includes providing holistic, safe, person‑centred and trauma‑informed support across all stages of the iindividual and family journey, from intake through to exit. You will provide high-quality case management, safety planning, referrals, advocacy, and practical assistance, while maintaining accurate records in Specialist Homelessness databases.
A key focus of this role is assisting individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to access safe, affordable, and stable accommodation. You will also work with individuals and families with complex needs to develop skills that support the sustainability of current and future tenancies and enhance overall quality of life. This role is dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome the barriers that have contributed to their homelessness or risk of homelessness.
Must be flexible to work a rotating roster and available for backfilling shifts when required.
This is a Permanent, Full-Time Position (38 hours per week) based in Broadbeach.
Skills And Experiences
To be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:
- Minimum Certificate III in Community Services or related field (Mandatory)
- Hold a current Blue Card (Mandatory)
- Understanding of DFV dynamics, risk assessment, safety planning and trauma‑informed practice
- Experience working with culturally diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Ability to navigate crisis environments with calm, grounded decision‑making
- Knowledge of and ability to work within relevant legislation and guidelines relating to the delivery of specialist homelessness services
- Previous experience as a Support Worker or equivalent within the homelessness support sector or related field
- Ability to deliver advocacy on behalf of clients and always ensure confidentiality of client information
- Ability to work unsupervised at times as well as an effective team member
- Contribute positively within a team environment
- Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, with a willingness to learn
- Effective communication and time management skills
- Demonstrate genuine respect for all people regardless of their situation
- Understanding of risk management principles including current WHS legislation and regulations
- Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
